Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Al-Hamdulillahi Rabbi A’lamin

As Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

Dear Amma, Abba and Family,

I just got your mail today.  How are you all doing? Al-Hamdulillah, I’m doing good by the Grace of Allah Azz Wajaal.  I pray to Allah that you all are doing good by His Care and Ni’mah.

This is our 19th day here so far. Last week they moved in the other Muslim from Marion who came here with me.  Now we are cellies. Al-Hamdulillah. We used to be on the same range at Marion too. SubhanAllah, how amazing is the Decree of Allah, he arrived at Marion just a day before I did, and when Allah decreed, we left on the same day. Wal-Hamdulillah.

We go out for recreation on the weekdays for 1 hour. We just played ‘hand ball’ today. It’s when you hit the ball with the palm of the hand to hit against the wall, taking turns, one hit a turn.

As for the food here,  by the Grace of Allah, Al-Hamdulillah, it’s better than Marion. We’re also allowed to get commissary, Al-Hamdulillah.

I’ve tried to find out about how long we’ll be here but they don’t know. They (prison officials) have mentioned that they think we aren’t going back to Marion, and Allah knows best.  Anyways, from what I’ve heard is that Marion CMU is supposed to be a temporary “program” place or something, where after a period of time, they transfer the prisoners somewhere else.  May Allah, our Rabb, put us in a place much better than Marion.

Indeed, He is the best of the Hakimin, Judges, Hasbiyallahi wa Ni’mal Wakil.

Al-Hamdulillah, here Allah has given me much time to read the Quran.  Don’t send me any books- I don’t know how long I will be here, so wait until later, inshaAllah.  May Allah, our Rabb, take us out of this place and bring us to a place much better than this, sooner and swiftly.  Indeed my Rabb is Qareeb Mujeeb.  Give my salams to everyone.

Wa Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

Ahmed Mohammad Ajaj: May 16, 2012 (Some Good News…)

I am writing to report good news. On February 3, 2012, the Federal Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson ruled that the CMU Muslim prisoners at Terre Haute, Indiana have the right to perform their daily prayers in a group without the fear of punishment by the prison officials and rejected the Warden’s excuses for banning the Muslim Congregational prayers.

We provided a copy of the Judge’s ruling to the prison officials at CMU-Marion but they told us that they will not comply with such ruling and we will continue to be subjected to disciplinary punishment if we perform our Islamic congregational prayers. In addition, our requests of Halal meals that complies with our religious dietary requirements were denied and they denied us the ability to purchase any Halal items from any Islamic vendor in violations of clearly established laws of this country.

It should be noted that Jewish inmates are provided with free Kosher meals and [are ]allowed to purchase Kosher meals from a Jewish vendor!!. On April 3, 2012, the attorney Mr. Alan Mills who won a lawsuit against Illinois’ supermax prison (“Tamms”) and a known defender of the rights of prisoners visited with us and he will be working with other law firms inIllinois to help us to file lawsuits against the BOP and the prison officials in the CMU- Marion:

Ehsanul Sadequee: May 6, 2012 (Sudden Departures)

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Al hamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin

As Salaamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

Dear Amma, Abba and Family,

I hope and ask Allah that you all are doing good by His Ni’mah. Al-hamdulillah, I’m doing good by the Grace of Allah. How is everybody?

I am currently writing to you from Greenville, Illinois, FCI, where I am in SHU (solitary confinement) waiting transfer. They brought me and another Muslim from the Marion-CMU over here on Friday, May 4, 2012.

At Marion, the warden and her crew became paranoid over some minor issues. They decided to put a Muslim in the SHU, and then the next day another, and then another the next day, and another the next day. And on the fourth day, they “deported” me and three other Muslims. So , they put at least three Muslims in the SHU and “deported” me and four Muslims, including myself. I am the only one in the SHU right now [in the new facility]. This is as far as I know, I don’t know what’s happened after Friday. Wallahul Musta’an.

Al-hamdulillah, everything is okay. I got a mushaf and am reading Quran, in preparation for the month of Ramadan.

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Wakil, Disposer of Affair.

HasbunAllahu wa Ni’maail-Wakil.

Al-Hamdulillah Rabbil ‘Alamin, the affairs all return to Allah, and He Alone is in charge. He is our Guardian and Friend, and He supports the righteous.

Keep me in your Du’a. Give everyone my salaams.

May Allah, tabaraku wa’ta’ala, deliver us and all the oppressed Muslims from the oppressors, by His own Ni’mah and Fadl. And may He united us with our families and the believers in this world and in the Al-Jannat. May Allah bless you all and rectify all your affairs and grant you success in the duniya and the Hereafter.

Wal-Hamdulillahi Rabbil Alamin
Was Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

Visitations at CMU: An Unregulated BOP Deliberately Estranges Families

When his wfie and children arrived to visit Shukri Abu-Baker at the secretive federal prison known as a Communications Management Unit (CMU) in Terre Haute, Indiana, this past fall, they were forced to sit in silence and stare at him through Plexiglass. The twin phones on either side of the partition wouldn’t work. They raised their voices to be able to hear each other, but the guards immediately told them to stop. Their communications, after all, had to be recorded and monitored live by someone in Washington, DC.

The Abu-Bakers had scheduled their visit over a month in advance. The Federal Board of Prisons (BOP) knew they were coming. The family made the fifteen-hour trip from Dallas to Terre Haute in a rented van, spending a total of $2,000 so they could spend eight hours that weekend seeing and talking to Shukri.

The prison officials told the family to go to the hotel and wait so that they could fix the phones. They never called them. When the family returned a month later to spend Eid at the prison, the same thing happened.

We Have Nothing To Lose

What is he scared of,
the one who has no life?
What is he scared of,
the one who grew up under an embargo,
the one who has just come back from combat,
the one who has spent years in prison,
the one who experienced exile?

What is he scared of,
the one whose land,
whose farm,
whose school
are ruined?

What is he scared of,
the one whose identity,
whose freedom,
whose rights
have been stolen?

What is he scared of,
the one who is
jobless,
hopeless,
who sees no future?

What is he scared of,
the one whose life
is empty,
has no color,
no smell,
no taste at all?

Enough!

Do not threaten us with death
Do not scare us with armies
If you have a brain in your head,
if you have a conscience, or a heart,
if you are a true human––
instead of force and gun
speak to us with your tongue.
