Update on Sheikh Nasr AlFahd and a Plea for continued Dua’ for all Prisoners

Sheikh Nasr alFahdAll Praises belong to Him, Lord of the Worlds, who ordained glad tidings for the family of Sheikh Nasr al-Fahd, a political prisoner detained in the land of the Haramain for nearly a decade. A December 2012 campaign was launched by Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril in which the international community along with activists in Saudi collaboratively called for an end to the unjust imprisonment and torture of the 43 year old sheikh. A month after said social-network campaign demonstrated an outpouring of support and dua’ for Nasr al-Fahd, he was able to call his family for the first time in six years and on January 12, 1013 was permitted a visit equally overdue in years.

The estranged family reported that though his appearance was dramatically altered by a lean structure and grayed beard, his words and peaceful disposition imparted comfort and tranquillity to them. [Video of Sheikh Nasr al-Fahd before imprisonment without gray beard] They witnessed that along with a broken tooth, his hands and legs bore visible scars of torture to corroborate the numerous reports of abuse which he himself confirmed. Despite the obvious physical pain he has undergone, the sheikh insisted that his heart was satisfied and content with the will of Allah. He lifted the spirits of the family with his strong will and by recollecting a happier past, eliciting laughter from everyone, including his hardly recognisable 15 year old son, Usamah, whom he had not seen since eight years of age. He denied false reports of refusing visitors and imparted Salaam to all the Muslims who inquire after him.

This update was provided via Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril, who also included a powerful and personal anecdote with regards to continuing your dua’:

Several days ago before the [family] visit, my father (may Allah give him a long life full of deeds) returned from a trip to all three of our sacred Masajid. He told me everywhere he went he made duaa for the oppressed Muslims and this Shiekh in particular. He told me expect good news about him. Let us intensify the duaa. I told the family first good news was the call, then a visit, and the third will be the release InshAllah.

You dua is valuable and vital to the Ummah; Please continue to make Dua’ for all of the Prisoners and the weak and oppressed Muslims everywhere. JazakAllahu Khair.

Free Nasr Alfhd

Sheikh Nasr bin Hamad bin Humaym al-Fahd descends from the Farahid from the Asa’idah from the Rawaqah from Utaybah, whose ancestors go back to the tribe of Bani Sa’d ibn Bakr ibn Hawazin from ‘Adnan.

Born and raised in Riyadh, in 1992 Nasr al-Fahd graduated from Imam University, College of Shariah in Riyadh at the age of 23 and was appointed as a dean of the College of Usul ad-Din; Department of ‘Aqidah and Contemporary Ideologies. He continued in this post until he was arrested in 1994 and imprisoned until his release and suspension from the university in November 1997.

Sheikh Nasr al-Fahd was re-imprisoned in May 2003 along with two other prominent scholars, Sheikh Ali al-Khudhair and Sheikh Ahmed al-Khalidi, after the three issued a joint statement denouncing a ‘most wanted’ list of 19 men, publicised by the Saudi government.

The scholars argued that because the list was release under the banner of the American ‘War on Terror’, acting on the list provided support to American aggressions abroad and hence forbade republishing the posters or informing on the individuals pursued. Six months following their arrest, imprisonment, and torture, the three men were forced to appear on national television to publicly renounce their religious edicts under the pretence that it would ensure their release.

However, all three scholars were immediately returned to prison from where numerous letters have been smuggled out recanting their televised appearances and reveal that they were forced to make the statements under duress. To this date they remain in custody where they are continually beaten, tortured, denied medical treatment, and housed inhumanely.

In a recent event, former prisoner Sheikh Ahmad Jibril hilighted some of the brutal treatment endured by Sheikh Nasr:

His Teachers

He studied in the College under a group of teachers, the most popular of them:

Sheikh Zayd bin Fayyad (rahimahullah)
Sheikh Ahmad Ma’bad
And many others.

His Writings

Anthony Bottom: June 6, 2011 (On the Murder of Osama bin Laden)

What does the killing of Osama bin Laden mean to the issue of al-Qaeda and Islamic fundamentalism?

While the American government and its people celebrate the killing of Osama bin Laden, rest assured that al-Qaeda and fundamental Islamic movements will not now dissolve and disappear.  The primary reason is that the United States continues to operate as the imperial purveyor and harbinger of state terror against Muslim countries. Many Americans forget the original demands of al-Qaeda, as presented by its second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, many of which are not outside the rational demands of people wanting to live free of imperialist influence and domination:

  1. The US pull its troops out of all Muslim lands.
  2. Stop all US financial intervention in Muslim countries. Stop funding dictatorships.
  3. End US aid to Israel.

We do not condone suicide bombings, especially in the name of Islam. We do not condone the indiscriminate killing of unarmed women and children. We do not condone political and ideological wars which are carried out at the expense of the people. Whether carried out by “terrorists” or by state governments, we stand by these principles.

And in making these statements, we remember that the US and his allies are responsible for scores more deaths than any “Muslim extremist.” The civilian death count for Iraq and Afghanistan alone since the beginning of the war on terror is well over a million. This does not include civilian deaths in Pakistan, Palestine, or Libya. It does not include the wounded, the orphaned, or the refugees. The number of innocent civilians killed, wounded, and displaced since the beginning of US intervention only since 9/11 is so high that the majority of Americans have seemed entirely unable to understand it.

So, those who argue that the death of bin Laden means averting future attacks and saving innocent lives are misguided. For, it is us who are most responsible for gross civilian death tolls. And by taking illegal international action against bin Laden, we have only given al-Qaeda and its allies ideological, emotional, and political munitions. More grotesquely, it still refuses to recognize the universal right to sovereignty.

The war against terrorism is not being fought for the sake of justice. It is in fact a US war whose intention is to continue to exploit the natural resources of Islamic countries with complete impunity from their necessarily disenfranchised inhabitants, and maintain military, economic, and political domination in the Middle East. It is not a war on Osama bin Laden. It is a war on what he stands for.

The death of Osama bin Laden does not end the widespread opposition to US exploitation and/or occupation of Muslim lands and their natural resources. It will not stop US aerial bombing of innocent men, women, and children, or the hypocritical (and often deadly) foreign policy toward Muslim countries. Thus, the killing of Osama bin Laden or any other Muslim jihadist is merely a symbolic accomplishment. It will result in very little military change in the so-called war against terrorism for as long as the US seeks to influence and control the natural resources and territorial sovereignty of Islamic countries. Therefore, the question for the US government and American people is how long they will continue to seek the exploitation of the natural resources of other peoples’ lands, and military and political domination of sovereign nations?

The fighters are still there. The weapons are still there. And the structure of resistance is not radically altered. What has changed since the assassination of bin Laden is that the ideological and political grievances and demands of al-Qaeda have been legitimated by the US itself. We alone have provided proof of the reasons behind the resistance. Americans who believe this war is not about oil, protecting and defending Zionism and US hegemony are as deluded as those who flew planes into the World Trade Centers.

Casablanca Prisoners: 9 Years On (A Fund & Awareness Raising Dinner)

On 16 May 2003, a series of suicide bombings shook Casablanca, being the deadliest attacks in Morocco’s history, and widely believed to be a false flag operation by the Moroccan security agencies. As ‘a response’, the authorities adopted a new anti-terrorist legislation and arrested thousands of people, systematically subjected to enforced disappearance, torture, arbitrary detention and unfair trial. Nine years on, Morocco appears to have been a key country in the War on Terror, selected by the US to be part of the CIA rendition program. Likewise, it has emerged that several European countries have been implicated in the unfair treatment of individuals detained in Morocco under the banner of War on Terror.

Cageprisoners and Justice Morocco would like to invite you to join us for a three course dinner and to discuss the plight of the Moroccan political detainees and reflect over the role played by Morocco in the Global War on Terror. This event will adhere to Islamic etiquette and will have separate seating for men and women. The cost of entry is £10.00 and tickets can be acquired in advanced via the methods listed bellow. General inquiries regarding this event can be addressed at the following number: 0207 377 6700

Walter Bond: March 11, 2012 (America’s Bogus War on Terror)

Animal ingredients A to Z has became popular here.  One guy that was already vegetarian quit drinking milk after I let him borrow it!

They show movies here every weekend and we have TVs on every range but just as when I’m not in prison I seldom watch anything on them. Television is just boring to me. I have yet to check out any books through inter library loan because between the books I receive in the mail and all the books about Islam that I’m studying I have a lot to read.  I do listen to the radio from time to time but not my usual talk radio, sometimes I mellow out to some rhythm and blues. Beginning to learn a new language is definitely a humbling experience for me, at times I feel like a little kid literally struggling with my abc’s. But, I have also found that its kind of like lifting weights for my brain and its really neat to be able to express myself in a completely new way.  Here’s an fyi, I’ve come to learn that nearly all Arab Muslims love cats, its true.

I have been getting letters from a couple Vegan Muslims which is cool! I am going to start keeping a CMU journal that way one day when I get out insha Allah this place can be demystified and hopefully I can not just share my experience but that of the many political prisoners and causalities of Americas bogus war on terror…

Tariq Mehanna Trial Update: 3 November

November 3rd Update, Trial Day 8.

Day eight of Tarek’s trial was dedicated to the prosecution’s examination of the first cooperating witness to be called to the stand; Ali Aboubakr, an individual with a twenty year history of friendship with Tarek and the Mehanna family testified today over a period of four hours of questioning by the prosecution’s Jeffrey Auerhahn, a federal prosecutor recently investigated following revelation of his coercion of a cooperating witness in another trial to give false testimony. The climate and themes relating to and arising from Aboubakr’s testimony were consistent with those that have characterized the FBI’s approach to the American Islamic community, and that of U.S. Attorneys over the past week of hearings in Mehanna’s trial.

It is implicitly understood within the local Islamic community that Aboubakr’s agreement to participate in the prosecution’s case was secured through coercive overtures by the FBI regarding chat logs between Aboubakr and Tarek that were covered today during the examination. These chat logs clearly reveal that an overwhelming proportion of what mainstream media have referred to as “repulsive speech” actually originated from Aboubakr himself.

Despite his willing responses to the government’s examination, Aboubakr’s body language betrayed how tense and nervous he really felt, with four hours hours of dry mouth demonstrated by his downing of one cup of water after another, his endless fidgeting, avoidance of eye contact with Tarek or any family members and other signs as well. It certainly added to his anxiety that the courtroom was filled to brim with those fully supporting Tarek.  Read the rest of this entry »

Four terror suspects held in Swedish city of Gothenburg

Four people have been arrested in Sweden on suspicion of preparing a terror attack, police say.

They were detained in the west coast city of Gothenburg, security police officials were quoted as saying.

The arrests followed the evacuation of the city’s Roda Sten arts centre overnight because of a terror threat.

Some 400 people were celebrating the opening of an international festival for contemporary art when police ordered them to leave the building.

“Around midnight I was called out by the police and they said there was a threat to the building and asked us to quietly stop the party, which we did and everyone left,” head of the centre, Mia Christersdotter Norman, told The Associated Press.

“Police have searched the building but they didn’t find anything.”

Swedish police have given few further details about the arrests in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second biggest city.

But the Swedish news agency TT reports that the four were detained near the arts centre.

The incident comes on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the US, but it is not clear if there is a link.

Sweden raised its terror alert level from low to elevated last November because of a “shift in activities” among Swedish-based groups thought to be plotting attacks.

Suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab blew himself up in the centre of Stockholm during the busy Christmas shopping period last December, injuring two people.

Will you help bring my daddy home?

Please help us defend freedom, because we can’t afford to ignore injustice.

Did you know that law enforcement has the power to interpret new laws so broadly that even speech is being criminalized? Manufactured cases, preemptive prosecution and warrantless targeting of innocent Muslims are wreaking havoc on communities across the nation.

Victims of these new tactics are often people of good moral character who have a track record of contributing to the community. They have families and work hard to realize their dream of providing a better future for their loved ones and their society.

Help keep freedom alive.

These dreams are being crushed by heavy-handed tactics, intimidation, unjustified detentions, unwarranted suspicion, selective enforcement, fishing expeditions and politically-motivated prosecutions. Children, spouses and parents are put through incredible turmoil as they watch their loved ones be accused of terrible crimes and denied justice. They watch helplessly as prosecutors violate their loved-ones’ rights just to win convictions.

We know you believe that innocent people should not go to prison. So, we are asking for your help.

It’s not just about innocent Muslims going to jail. It’s about families. It’s about justice. It’s about defending the principles of freedom, liberty, fairness and equality that our forefathers fought so hard to establish in America.

It’s about all of us.  Will you help?

Please donate today.

MLFA beneficaries and their families appreciate your support.
